All Around the World
On June 15, 2003, a moment of extraordinary visibility and unity unfolded in Key West, Florida. As part of Rainbow25: Original Colors, artist and activist Gilbert Baker unveiled a mile-and-a-quarter-long Rainbow Flag—restored to its original eight colors—stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean down the full length of Duval Street. Sponsored by Absolut Vodka and carried by thousands of volunteers, the Sea to Sea Rainbow Flag became the largest Pride flag ever created—measuring 1.25 miles long, 16 feet wide, and weighing over 5,000 pounds. The flag was hand-sewn over many months using more than 17,000 yards of fabric and over 25 miles of seams.
For the first time, hundreds of unpublished photographs from that historic day are being shared in the spirit of Gilbert Baker’s lifelong belief that the Rainbow Flag belongs to everyone. Capturing the spirit, scale, and soul of a community in motion, these images document one of the most iconic displays of LGBTQ+ pride the world has ever seen.
One Human Family: All Around the World is more than an exhibit—it’s a living tribute to the global legacy of the Rainbow Flag, a moment stitched into history, and a reminder that across oceans and borders, the call for dignity and equality is universal.
